Ringing for VE Day

The Association has been asked to publicise the following:

Dear association PR Officer

You are probably already aware that the attached letter VE Day 70 to the Central Council has also been widely circulated around the churches asking that ringers arrange to ring for the 70th anniversary of VE Day (Victory in Europe) at 11 am on Saturday 9 May or over that weekend. I do hope you will encourage your members to join in as appropriate.

We know that ringers are always keen to ring for special occasions, and indeed we have been busy planning for some considerable time to encourage ringing to mark the 300th anniversary of the first recorded peal on 2 May and also the Magna Carta 800 anniversary and the special LiberTeas at 3 pm on Sunday 14 June.

The Public Relations Committee of the Central Council decided a little while ago to focus our key PR activity each year on just two or three events.  For this year we decided the biggest ones were going to be on 2 May and 14 June, as they are such special anniversaries.  There are many other anniversaries this year (many listed here: http://www.cccbr.org.uk/things-to-ring-for/coming-year/ ) and we do hope that all ringers will be able to mark many of them, including the anniversary of VE Day, and achieve local publicity for the reasons they are ringing.  To help with this we have put together some brief “lines to take” on some key issues for ringing to help you make your responses to questions about ringing as positive as possible.  These are attached and I hope you find them useful.  Please do let us know if there is anything else we can do to help you with your local publicity.

With all best wishes,

Kate
