Annual General Meeting update

On Saturday 13 April 43 members attended the Annual General Meeting held in the Church hall at All Hallows Twickenham.

This followed the inter-District striking competition at St Mary’s, and an hour’s general ringing at All Hallows including a touch of Spliced Cambridge Surprise and Little Bob Royal.

We had a splendid tea provided by the All Hallows ringers.

Striking Competition

The striking competition saw two bands from each District ringing a set touch of 251 Grandsire Triples, with many people listening in the sunny churchyard or from the nearby ‘Eel Pie’ pub. There were only 2 faults between the first and second place in the competition for the Roger Bailey Cup, which was retained by the South & West District.

The judges, Isaac and Rachel Johnson from Old Woking gave the results:

  • 1st place – S&W A, conducted by Steve Mitchell with 26 faults
  • 2nd place – N&E A conducted by Steve Jakeman with 28 faults
  • 3rd place – S&W B conducted by Mike Palmer with 96 faults
  • 4th place – N&E B conducted by Tom Britten with 121 Faults.

Jill Wigney awarded Honorary Life Membership

The President proposed that Jill Wigney be awarded Honorary Life Membership of MCA&LDG in recognition of the huge amount of work she had done in a number of roles in the Association, particularly as Report Editor, something she has done so well with diligence, superb organisational skills and good humour for a number of years. Printed editions of the latest Annual Report for 2023-2024 were available to members at the meeting. The proposal was accepted by the Meeting with acclaim!

By way of background, Jill become Membership Secretary in 2007 and the report in 2008 included the first Membership Secretary’s report with a table of membership numbers for the first time.

Jill has also rung 214 peals for the Association, 122 of them on handbells.
