  • Peal Attempt, 24th December (cancelled in 2021)

In due course we hope to add new dates to replace those lost following the death of the Duke of Edinburgh.

Very large-scale maintenance is due to take place on the tower, to address the issue of falling masonry.  A cordon is already in place around the base of the tower and scaffolding will be erected in due course.  A very limited schedule of ringing will take place (on the dates above) before the work starts and it is ESSENTIAL that visitors get in touch if they wish to join us.  No visitors can be accommodated when there is a quarter peal attempt.

With tower work likely to take place later this year (2021) and which is expected to last for two years, we are not taking any bookings for visiting bands, including peal bands for the annual peal attempt.

* These dates change a little from year to year.  The other dates are fixed.

QT (JW)When the dates above fall on weekdays ringing takes place between 1300 and 1400 and visitors are always welcome.  If a date falls on a weekend (or a Bank Holiday) the time may vary, a quarter peal may be arranged, and visitors cannot usually be accommodated.  If you would like to come it is always advisable to check first and we will know to look out for you.

You should bear in mind that with 239 steps to the ringing chamber, a 38 cwt tenor and considerable tower movement, strong legs and arms and good bell-handling are indispensible qualifications for ringing here.

includes a video (360 degree view in some browsers) of the bells being rung on 21st April 2016, for the Queen’s 90th birthday.
