2019 Striking Competitions

S&W striking competition

The S&W 6-bell striking competition took place on 9th June at Harefield, judged by Tony Crowther and Mark Hall from Hertfordshire.

Two of the usual favourites, Staines and Hillingdon, could not field a team, so the competition was much more open than usual. It was good to have 3 call-change teams, as well as the two method bands.

Results:

1 Ealing Grandsire Doubles 25 faults

2 Chiswick B Grandsire Doubles 46 faults

3 Twickenham Call Changes 115 faults

4 Chiswick A Call Changes 120 faults

5 Harrow Call Changes 144 faults

Ealing, Chiswick and Twickenham will go on to the Association final on October 19th, joining Staines (last year’s winners) to meet the N&E champions, Aldgate, Kilburn and Hackney.

N&E District striking competition

On Saturday 18th May eight teams from across the N&E district met at South Hackney for a challenging striking competition. With tea, coffee and biscuits served all afternoon and a book stall within the church raising money for the Bell Restoration Fund as well as spells of sunshine whilst listening to the ringing outside it was a pleasant social afternoon.

Clive Stephenson of Hornchurch in Essex listened from the churchyard and gave us the results. In the Novice competition Aldgate retained the cup they held last year with very well struck called changes, followed by the Isle of Dogs and St James, Islington.

Aldgate also won the Jersey cup with their method ringing band performing to a very high standard, followed by Kilburn and Hackney. The full results are:

Aldgate – 9.5
Aldgate Novices – 11.5
St Augustine, Kilburn – 12.5

St James, Islington – 17
